My experience as a Standard Bank Top Women Delegate
I had one of those pinch-me moments this year when I was a delegate for the Standard Bank Top Women Virtual Conference this year in October. So I wanted to share briefly what I have learned from that experience. During the
conference, I don’t quite remember the name of the speaker but the topic was “Creating a culture of change” And one of the most profound things said was ‘The meaning of life is to find your gift, and the purpose is to share it with the world.’ This was a shift for me because this year finally God revealed my purpose to me. And I think since then I was able to make a distinction between when you’re living for yourself and essentially searching for a bigger income, or when you’re purpose-driven and want to serve your gift freely to the world.
On day 2 of the event, what stood out for me was a talk given by Dr. Precious-Moloi Motsepe titled “Advancing Gender Parity in Africa” And basically, the question that was raised was ‘How can businesses collaborate for more economic contribution’?
And of course, the emphasis is always on women because there’s always more opportunity needed for women to occupy and collaborate in executive leadership positions. There’s a growing need for collaboration in partnerships, and this collaboration has to be across industries because that’s how the national GDP grows. Also, the key thing is that the workforce needs a multi-industry balance in order to enhance hyper productivity.
These two points just stood out for me, but the 2-day virtual conference was one of the most amazing experiences, especially as
a self-employed start-up, I really walked away with a wealth of knowledge to push my business forward.
Shout to Standard Bank for the opportunity.
